I started this late so here goes!
10/1/14
Today was the very first lunch meeting for robotics! I think it went well but I think I gave a tad bit
too much information and overwhelmed the crowd. Other than that I'm very excited to start the robotics season.
10/3/14
Today I had a lunch meeting with a representative from Olin College of Engineering. The man was very nice and
I really loved all the information from him. Olin seems like a great college but it seems a tad bit hard
for me to get in. It'll be a reach but I'm still aiming to apply. They don't have a major in computer science
but that would mean I'd major in electrical engineering. Also hopped into another meeting at lunch with Girl Tech
to see what they want to do with the club.
10/4/14
Today I was super, super excited because I got to visit Harvey Mudd College which is were my girlfriend goes!
I had a wonderful dinner with her and she toured me around Harvey Mudd. It was my first time being there and not
being focused on robotics since we've had scrimmages there. It was an awesome campus and I really loved the atmosphere.
This visit was awesome and I'd love to visit again. Had a ton of fun running around the city.
Oh yea! I also asked Isabel to homecoming. I created a frame out of metal and asked all of her friends to give me pictures of
what they are doing in college. They took tons of selfies and sent them to me. It was great.
10/5/14
Today I mentored the Girl Scouts for FLL (FIRST LEGO League) and we started working on the robot! They completed a
beginning model and also everyone knows how to program it now! Once the girls saw the robot move they went crazy.
They also finalized their project/research question. They chose to learn how to make others aware of how the internet works.
10/6/14
This week is going to be crazy. I'm setting up the DreamWorks trip on Friday and it's going to be crazy getting
people to go and getting drivers. I'm SUPER excited though.
10/7/14
Today was awesome. I ran down to the track and then I played a long game of capture the flag with track. This game was super
intense. Running against sprinters was crazy. They are super aggressive and by the end of the games we had 6 players to
their 12 players. We lost a couple to going home and one got slammed into while carrying the flag. He ended up having
a concussion, a strained quad, and strained neck. Super crazy, fun game.
10/8/14
Today I went to the early morning Wednesday meeting and we mainly talked about DreamWorks and what we are going to do.
Mr. Platt wore pink!!! Yay! He remembered that on Wednesday we wear pink! That was fun and excited.
At lunch we had a Girl Tech meeting where Justin, Manav and me showed them the basics of Unity. We had all the groups
create blocks and then at the very end. Their blocks moved and knocked into each other. EVERY group went crazy.
The feeling of helping someone accomplish something is amazing. It was awesome to see them go crazy about programming
10/9/14
Today I again worked on getting ready for DreamWorks. It was crazy packing and also getting people to sign their permission
slips. I did feel a little overwhelmed and probably should have gotten some help but I made it through the day.
Once I got home too I got a barrage of emails from Mrs. Martos. Super excited because we hit over 1,800 hours of service
starting last June. This is all for this year which is CRAZY!
10/10/14
Today was a minimum day and it was awesome. Right after 5th period I drove the robot to DreamWorks and set up for our event.
We showed off Alice and many many employees came up and talked to us about what we do. My dad came down to bring his friends
and also he brought Jeffrey Katzenberg to see who he sponsors. Thanks to Kate Swanborg, Dr. Lincoln Wallen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg.
We packed up after a bit and then went with my dad to view a 30 minute screening of what DreamWorks does. This was awesome
and I think the best part was the early screening of Penguins of Madagascar. After the screening we went to tour Dreamworks and the
secret/hidden room was AWESOME. Oh yea the food was AMAZING as usual. Gah Love that food. It was a great day.
10/11/14
Today I took my subject SAT Tests both in Math 2 and Chemistry. I felt Math went well but my chemistry was SUPER rusty from 2 years ago.
I also spent my day working on college apps. It went well. I also created my corsage for Isabel for Homecoming! I asked Isabel if she wanted to
buy a corsage and boutinnere. She was like awww do we have to and then she asked if I could create them out of LEGOS. So I did and it
turned out great! I'm super excited for homecoming! We talked for a bit too and probably talked till a bit too late. But it was fun.
10/12/14
Today I woke up super late since I was up till 2AM talking to Isabel. It was nice to talk to her for a while since I'm not able to because she
has sooooo much work at HMC. I mentored my girl scouts again and I think it went great because ALL of them were happy with what they were doing.
I asked before what they wanted to do on the robot. They split up to create attachements, make a jig, finish the robot and also program it!
It went well yea.
On the other I went home from girl scouts and we were going to play our High School Star League game for competition and Collin and Eric wouldn't
make it so I was going to sub in. At the last minute Collin said OH I can play.
10/13/14
Today I'm actually really looking forward to next weekend. Sadly enough it's only the beginning of the week. 4th period was horrible because
almost none of the students had their websites up to date. This disappointed me. :( I was so happy once these websites got up and I don't
think the students appreciate it yet. It's SUPER convenient.
10/14/14
Today has gone well. I prepared for the Wednesday challenge tomorrow which was the first Wednesday challenge I was here for last year.
I became a TA late last year so I joined at about the quarter. Still looking forward to Homecoming.
10/15/14
Today was a good day. Robotics had it's 2nd robotics meeting where we talked about subsystems. We also talked about the many many opportunities
for community service. Check out cvrobots.com to see what events we have coming up. Today was also the 7th
month for me being with Isabel :D. She's having a hard week at college since it's midterms/finals and tons of work before their small break. Cheering
her on wooo!!! Best of luck to her while testing. Lastly I ended the day by going to a Track pasta dinner for our race tomorrow. We have to run
the three mile race that Cross Country does since we're technically in Cross Country. I'm actually in both full on, so I'll be running all the races
and training with Track. Seems fun and looking forward to it.
10/17/14
Today we had a meeting with Mr. Wilton for robotics. It went meh. Disappointed a bit. I'm going to try real hard to work on getting the group to be
motivated and work on the project more and more.
10/18/14
Today was a great day. I got to go to homecoming with Isabel at the Autry Museum. It was amazing and she looked great! Had a ton of fun dancing and our
corsage and bountinerre rocked! Many comments on them since they were made by LEGOS. Isabel came up with the idea and I created them. Super awesome.
It was an awesome experience.
10/19/14
Today was an early day since we had the FLL practice tournament at the Girl Scout house. It went from 8:30AM till around 5PM. Worked super hard with setup
and cleanup and also I mentored my team. It was a great experience for them to go through. They finished the door mission and are working on the turn table.
Watching their presentations openned my eyes on what we need to work on which was great! I'm looking forward to the next meeting and seeing how they thought
it went. I ended the day eating dinner with the Martos-Repath family at Zeke's which was super tasty. I had a pulled pork sandwich. Then Isabel and I went and
watched Divergent. Good movie with a lot of corny/cheesy themes.
10/20/14
Today was an awesome start to the day. Isabel visited school and Dr. Neat. She started to try to program one of our ACSL practice problems in python since she half did
it already. It was pretty sick to see. Then she talked in bunch of the classes and slowly extended her day from being here till second period until lunch.
She hung around during 4th and trying to help get our JPL group motivated. She left at lunch to eat with her parents which was good bye for me since she's be
heading back to HMC tonight. So far it was an amazing weekend. Loved spending so much time with Isabel and kind of miss having her around since she's always at
school working. Good days.
10/21/14
Today I got ready for the Girl Tech meeting tomorrow. Feeling prepared. Later on in the day I ran Cross Country today and ran mile repeats. So fun running again
I had to run 4 sets of ~6:40-6:50 mile times. Felt super good to run again.
10/22/14
Today we had the Girl Tech meeting, it went well. I was a tad boring since it was just review plus a couple of more items.
10/23/14
Today I had Blaze Pizza for the Girl Tech fundraiser. I went out with my hubby Eric and we ate good pizza. After we went to Pinkberry and I got pumpkin ice cream.
I had a good time just hanging out with Eric and talking about life. It was fun.
10/24/14
Today I'm preparing for the SWE convention tomorrow. Later on I went to house/dog sit a friends house. His dads were gone so I looked over for them.
It's weird being alone and I actually didn't like it too much. I like having people around. Dogs, still meh to me. Don't like claws.
Dogs have grown on me though. In the past year I've started to like them more and more. With both Solei (Isabel's dog) and Bruin (Collin's dog)
I think I can handle them now.
10/25/14
Today we went to the SWE convention! It was awesome! There were so many young women there that were exploring and learning new things.
We showed a ton of girls how to build little chopstick catapults and then with the catapults they shot marshmallows. Tons of fun.
Later on Eric shot one of the marshmallows and I was trying to catch it, I hopped to the side to fake push Bon Won out of the way
then jumped backed catching that marshmallow in my mouth. Crazy awesome catch :D. Isabel also took the train over from Harvey Mudd
and spent the day at the convention. Wasn't able to talk to her during the convention too much since we were presenting the entire time
but I was able to drive her home since she had to get back for an astrobio trip for stargazing. Had a wonderful drive over and got to
catch up on the past week. She also took me to The Donut Man which she raved about. She doesn't even like donuts or anything sugar coated.
We grabbed a box of donuts (for my family too) and went to the park and ate them. Super delicious and had fun making a mess with the
blueberry cream one. Drove home and today was a wonderful day.
10/26/14
I woke up later today since I stayed up late. Had fun playing with my friends online. Took a slow start and fed the dogs. I ate some donuts
and some churros that my parents brought home from their LA food tour from our aunt for last Christmas. Tasty churros, a bit tough but flavorful.
Packed up and left the house. Went to Girl Scouts. I had the idea of showing off Alice to the girls since I had her in my car. I realized that
none of the girl scouts or FLL students know what we do. They have nothing to look forward to in high school. So we showed off the robot and
they were all super excited and had fun with the robot. Today in FLL we focused on respect towards others and the project. Most teams at the
practice tournament had their question proposed wrong. So we fixed it and started to work a bit on the robot. The team decided to work on the robot
during the Sunday meetings and later on we'll have meetings for project. We only have 2 weeks left so we have to focus in on what we think is important.
10/27/14
I had a decent Monday. Pretty normal. Had to leave track a tad early since I had a checkup for my toes. They seem to be growing back in straight
and we still just have to watch them as they come in. Not too much else for my Monday. I did try to keep Isabel in good spirits about one of her
courses. She has a midterm tomorrow that she's slowly getting more stressed with. Tried to calm her down and keep her positive. Hope she does the best
that she can do and good luck to her on that tomorrow.
10/28/14
Today was an excellent day, except for computer science. Sadly we've lost 6 laptops and in our class we have 3 people laptopless. Which is horrible
They aren't able to do work and can't continue on with the course. I've tried to solve this problem but it just keeps getting worse. Gah. Physics though
was fantastic. Today Mr. Platt was working on the Smart board and he took a picture of his work and emailed it to himself. For the second picture he was
having trouble emailing it to himself so it took him a bit. During that period I took my phone out and emailed Mr. Platt "Hi Mr. Platt :)". The email
showed up a second later on the board and everyone started to laugh! It was awesome, Mr. Platt said "Hi Jacob." then continued trying to figure out what happened.
Super fun and love Mr. Platt. Later on her replied "You rock!" because he got a kick out of that :). That class is always so much fun and so lively.
Okay moving on, I went to cross country today and told myself "OKAY, you're going to try to finish the entire workout", so I tried. We had to run down
to the park, then a 2 mile warmup, then our workout was 1000m, 60 sec rest, 1000m, 60 sec rest, then an all out 400m. The 1000m are tempo pace which is
comfortably hard and a tad under race pace. I tried to run with a group up too and kept up for the first set (we did 2 sets of that) and then slowed down a
tad for the second set. After that we ran another mile cooldown then back to school. I felt good but knew I'm going to be sore tomorrow. After practice
on Tuesdays I look forward to Grandma's kitchem. Love rootbeer, so I grab those. I got home then felt productive so finished math then made an excel
spreadsheet of all my colleges and specifics about them. Finished my CSU applications and UC application too. So hopefully I can send those to my teachers
this weekend. Long wonderful day.
2/26/15
Wow.... It's been a while... I'd like to start doing this more but lately I haven't had any time to write. With robotics and pole vault I just get back so late
that I barely have time to do homework. But lately I've been super excited for the months coming up. First of all robotics has gone so well and I'm super happy
with what we completed. I love competition and everyday we get closer to going. It's tons of fun to bond with the team and also share our experience with so many
others that have that same passion. Second, I'm soooo excited about pole vault. We have our first track meet this Saturday and I'm looking forward to jumping.
Every year so far I've been injured and I haven't been able to jump all year. But this year I'm pumped. I've been doing super well in practice and I've cleared my
personal best by over a foot. I am now at 11 feet 6 inches. From two years ago where I was on crutches and a wheelchair, I'm pretty happy. Yesterday I finished up
my supplementary essays for UC Irvine which I'm SUPER excited for. This means that they are interested in me and want to learn more. I'm happy with what I sent in.
During this next month, I should be reciving letters from my colleges that I applied to for the status of if I was accepted or not. I've been looking forward to going
to college lately. I've heard so many stories and I like the idea of living by myself and keeping track of my own responsibilities. What else do I have on mind...
Oh Isabel is doing well, she's working hard. I am slowly looking forward to the next time that I get to see her. It may be during spring break which is another two
weeks away. It'll be during competition which I had a blast with her last year. Also two days after competition will be our one year anniversary since we started dating.
I'm super happy and the last 11 months have been fantastic. I'm so glad I am able to have her be a part of my life. We've started to plan a camping trip with a bunch
of her friends at Harvey Mudd to Joshua Tree! We've book a camping spot and I'm very much so looking forward to it. I've never been to Joshua tree and she's been and
loves it there. It's gorgeous there and it'll be awesome to explore there.
OH Side note: Remember to go out to coffee with John in 10 years! I'd love to see where we're both at in life.
Welp, now I get to relax a bit, focus on classes and get stronger in pole vault. It's been a good semester so far.
2/27/15
Today was a good day. School went well. The gosh darn dress thing with blue and black and white and gold came up TOO MUCH! People were getting so agitated by such a small
post. I was getting slowly and slowly more annoyed by people arguing about the dress. Umm pole vault was fun today. Tyler led us to complete as very very easy
workout. Getting ready for tomorrow. One fun part of my day was that I brought a slide whistle to school. Just for the heck of it. No reason at all. I played around with it
during many of my classes. Track was probably the most fun with it. I ran up behind people and played my whistle. It's nice to get people to smile and laugh at
the nonsense that is going on around them. Later on in the day I went to the Martos house for our chairmans meeting. This was a very productive and fun meeting.
We talked about what we were going to wear and bring to the presentation. Also started talking about the theme about what we'll do. Mr. Wilton and Mr. Abrams has
a little email that was funny. Mr. Wilton said to Mr. Abrams "I'm going to have to agree with Mark here." and Mr. Abrams responded "Yes! 40,218,412 Bruce - 1 Mark."
Tis very funny :D Excited about tomorrow and my track meet. It's going to be fun but I hope the weather is good enough to vault in.
